Food Safety Training

Safe Food Handling is essential for protecting health and preventing foodborne illnesses. Understanding the principles of food safety ensures the meals you prepare are both safe and nourishing. This interactive, hands-on training equips you with the knowledge and confidence to handle, prepare, and service food safely. Through real-world examples and hands-on learning, you'll learn how simple practices can prevent illness and keep clients safe.


This training is approved by the Ministry of Health and is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to keep food safe. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident in identifying potential food safety risks and applying safe, effective food-handling techniques in your daily work.


This training is open for everyone.


Cost: $80 + EventBrite fees.

Training Format


This is an in-person training and is held at our office located in Oakville.

Frequently Asked Food Safety Questions

  • What is your refund policy?

    For cancellations:


    Cancellations received within 15 or more business days prior to the training/orientation start date will receive a refund minus Eventbrite Fees. Alternatively, paid registrants unable to attend a course for which they have registered may opt to apply their fees to a future session. Fees must be used within one year of the original course date. In some instances, paying registrants may have the option to transfer their paid seat to another staff member in their organization to use within the year of the original course date.

    Cancellations can be submitted via email (info@regionallearningcentre.ca) or by phone (905-829-7006).


    Refunds will not be provided in the following circumstances:


    · Cancellations received less than fifteen business days prior to the training session/workshop start date this includes the orientation date.


    · ‘No shows’ (defined as individuals registered for a training session, workshop or course who do not attend the training or orientation and do not submit a cancellation to the RLC education team)


    · Participants who have already received course materials such as e-learning keys or manuals.


    In the event that a course is cancelled by the Regional Learning Centre, registrants who have already received course materials (e-learning keys/access) are not eligible to receive a refund, but can use the fees towards the same session in the future within one year of the cancelled course. All other paid registrants will have the option to receive a full refund, including Eventbrite fees or use the fees towards a future session. Fees must be used within one year of the cancelled course date.

  • How long is the course and what is the format?

    This is a 1 day in-person course. You are expected to attend the whole day and succesfully pass the exam to be certified.

  • How long after will I receive my certificate?

    You will receive your certificate within 7 business days of completing the exam.

  • I lost my certificate, how can I obtain a replacement?

    Please send us an email at info@regionallearningcentre.ca with your full name and when you attended the training. There is an administration cost of $25. 

  • Is lunch provided?

    Lunch is not provided. Please bring a lunch, you will be given a 45 minute break. 


    Additionally, you will get a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon. 


    You will have access to a fridge and microwave. 

  • Is this training offered in any other languages?

    This training is only offered in English. 

  • Do I have multiple attempts to complete the exam?

    You will receive a total of 3 attempts to complete the exam. If you are unsuccessful on your first attempt, you will be given a new re-take exam date. 


    Please note there is a $35 fee for each extra attempt. 

  • What do I need to bring with myself on the day of the training?

    Kindly bring a piece of government issued ID (driver's license or photo card).


    You can bring a notebook, stationary or electronic device (laptop or ipad) to take notes. 

    Please note that cell phones will not be allowed for note-taking. 


    You will be given a workbook. 

  • Where is this certification valid?

    This certification is valid in Ontario for 5 years.
